We are Dora Varga, student Graphic Design at WDKA and Lotte Gerick student Graphic Design at WDKA and International Bachelor Arts and Culture Studies at the Erasmus University. After Dora visualised her single use plastic waste using Data Design, she decided to change her behaviour concerning her ecological footprint and the decrease of her waste. Her good friend Lotte saw this and was influenced by Dora to also make some changes.
For example, Lotte does most of her groceries on the market and buys her fruit and veggies in reusable cotton bags now. Exactly this system, changing because your surroundings are changing, was the starting point of our concept: Zero-Waste Meal!

Most of the time we only adapt changes because we see people close to us change. Lotte, for instance, would never have adopted this zero-waste principle if she was not influenced by Dora. With our Zero-Waste meal principle, we try to create awareness right at the beginning. Students do groceries together and cook together all the time, why not try to make this into a challenge for our mama Planet Earth? The goal is to make one Zero-Waste meal with your friends and share this with the hashtag #zerowastemealrotterdam. By using a team of representatives, we try to create the action-reaction effect which is enabling us to achieve as much students as possible. We are hoping that this challenge will be the starting point for students to do groceries in a more conscious way, and thus make them also more familiar with the zero-waste principle.
